Tune up reccomendations?
hello again gents,
I'm dropping the 300d off for a valve adjustment. I also asked my mechanic to check idle speed and injector start timing. I recently replaced the glow plugs, fuel filters, power steering filter, trans filter and changed the oil, trans fluid and oil filter. Does anyone else have any good suggestions? I just got the car and want to make it as reliable as possible. thanks in advance! 83 300d |

There is no such thing as a "tune up" on a modern car, most especially a diesel. This term refers to the old engines that required, points, plugs etc.
I do not what you are asking, however, and it sounds as if you have the bases pretty well covered. Once you have all this done and it is running to your satisfaction, it will be time to start being religious about oil and filter changes. I don't want to start an oil war here, but use a "Universal Grade" oil. These are designed for diesels and have additional additives to deal with the soot that is generated by a diesel. Examples of these oils are: Chevron Delo Multigrade, Shell Rotella T, Mobil Delvac and there are many others besides these most common ones. Change oil and filter frequently and thoroughly and maybe you can get 380,000 miles out of the engine as I did on the original engine in my 240D. Enjoy, Change oil hot and change oil often, |

The only things I can think of that I did that you didn't are:
Replaced differential fluid Check brakes and change fluid Check belts and hoses Flush and fill coolant Replaced motor mounts and engine shock Religiously use Redline DFC diesel additive You'll drive it into the ground. Good luck and have fun JCD |
