ASD Light on
My ASD indicator, yellow, light is always on. I successfully spun both rear wheels in the snow recently and noticed that the red "ASD Activated" light did not go on.
Previous threads are read. How can I diagnose this problem? Thanks.

slowmoe,
I doubt this is the same issue as I could not believe I did this. Mine came on and I freaked out, stopped, read the manual and realized I must have shut it off inadvertently with the switch on the console. So I pushed the button and the light went off - everything is fine. I think the system defaults back to on if you shut the car off, which it sounds like you have done, so the next time it is on when you fire the car up. So, if yours is still off after restarting you may have a problem with the switch sticking in the off position or a blown fuse or something. Try manually cycling the switch and check your fuses. Any other electrical stuff ignoring driver/operator input? Good luck, Jim

Jim,
Sorry, I probably did not make this clear. I am refering to the locking rear differential, ASD, on my 1992 124 300D 2.5. I am not sure if you are or not. In slippery conditions the rear wheels lock and a redlight in the center of the consul illuminates. The yellow "dummy light" next to the glow plug light is the one that is on continualy. As far as I am aware I do not have a switch on the consule to over ride the ASD operation. Please let me know if I am mistaken. Thanks.

slowmoe,
My 1998 has ASD with a switch on the console in the vicinity of the window switches. My car has a huge yellow triangular symbol that lights up in the middle of the speedometer when the system engages or when the by-pass is engaged. I have no idea how the system is implemented on your car, but I would expect the by-pass to be on it somewhere. I hope I am not leading you astray and will go search my CD for the W124 and see what it says. In the mean time, Good Luck. Jim
