My '68 220D/8 got 45 mpg once with a massive tail wind south out of Amarrillo. Normal mpg on road was somewhere around 33 to 35, with 28 to 30 normally experienced in town driving. As noted below it went for 325k before being set aside, mileage always about the same over life of vehicle.
