MAN!.......Diesel over $1.80

Boy, diesel took a real rise this weekend. In NJ, we're now between $1.70 and $1.90 depending on the station.

I also just got smoked for $1.64 for heating oil this weekend.

Ouch

$1.71 is the lowest I can find right now. Methinks its time to start making biodiesel. Even if I have to cut it retain pour point in this cold weather it'll be cheaper. RT

Agreed !
I had researched the biodiesel possibility but shelved the idea due to the cost of the components..primarily methanol, but it seems the price at the pump of diesel today pushes the bio/ wvo project into the realm of something worth doing. I drive 50 mi. one way to work each day......ouch ! I know the trucking industry is on my side as far as supply is concerned but with only a twenty cent difference between the price of non-taxed home heating oil and the cheapest diesel in my area (with its .40 cent tax), seems that someone is taking advantage of winter and world politics. am I rambling?...the subject is a sore spot.
cheers, mark

JCD,

Try burning your heating oil. At least it will save you a dime or so on the gallon.

It's a $1.649 right now at the Texaco station where I always buy my diesel. I am just going to start walking everywhere if it gets too high, but I hate all the hills in my area

Ugh I remember back to late 2000 and early 2001, when diesel got that expensive...and my only mode of transportation was a diesel van that had 40 gallons' worth of fuel capacity and got 13mpg. At this time, I was driving to L.A. and back every other week (girlfriend lived down there; fortunately, I convinced her to move up here )...at $80 per fill-up, and fueling once to twice a week, I got a lot thinner during that timeframe...my only consolation was that, at the time, g@$ was more expensive...

I just paid $1.79 a gallon here, and if it goes up any more, I get to park the truck for a while...

Diesel in SC is a 1.58 but who cares. Fuel is the cheapest part of driving an automobile. What else can you get for 1.58 that is so much fun, goes 30 miles, and just ticks away.

Have a great day

Searay,
I wouldn't mind paying a high price IF I got a quality product like 50+cetane premium. When I have to pay $1.80+ for rot-gut, cat pee 40cetane ***** I get irritated. ESPECIALLY since diesel is much easier for the refineries to make in the first place. They're gouging us because they CAN!!

Ever priced kerosene? It's even a lower grade fuel, and it's even higher. Because they can!

Kereosene

Is a 1.56 where I am. I have began to mix a 50/50 mixture of diesel and kereosene. Diesel is a 1.89 here...cheapest I've seen is 1.73....god this is an expensive car....it comes out even with a g@sser after you equate that it's 20 cents more for fuel.
