Angry That tears it, goodbye diesel, hello heating oil

I refuse to be gouged anymore. I should have switched when our governor added an $.08 tax JUST to diesel 6 months ago, but right now I'm paying more for diesel than super-unleaded and I'm not going to bend over any more. I've got a drum pump in my oil tank in the basement and plenty of Stanadyne PF to lower the gel-point. I only wish my Jetta was out of warranty so I could switch that one too, however, at 44 M.P.G. that one doesn't piss me off as much.

I hear you .. we're getting hosed on diesel
in Fairfield county at the moment .. Maybe there's
an arbitrage opportunity here .. I signed a fixed price
contract this year with my home heating oil company
for $1.35/gallon .. just got topped off today and the
driver told me that the retail price today for #2 heating
oil was $1.99 .. I'm thinking of starting a diesel service
station from my backyard .. red dye anyone ??

Triffin ..

Watch out, guys, if the feds catch you running dyed fuel the penalties are draconian (5-digit fines & possible jail time). And there have been reports of more checkpoints recently since the prices shot up. Usually they only hassle truckers but now passenger vehicles are also getting checked in some places, mostly near farm areas that have easy access to non-freeway (dyed) diesel. Be careful out there!

Note that biodiesel, or SVO/WVO, isn't dyed and probably wouldn't get you in much trouble - IF they even noticed it wasn't #2!

You will never get caught around here. Were loaded with tree huggers bragging there saving the world. The university is spending millions in grants for just that purpose. STOP STOP I'm letting them get to me

I would add to gsxr's warning. It's your business whether or not you burn untaxed fuel, but just remember that your dealing with the "Federali's" on this one.

Good luck,

My wife, the brains of the outfit, actually did lock in this winter for 1,000 galons of heating oil @ $1.04. Here the pump price for diesel is around $1.78.

If you start buying it right now, fuel oil will cost you more than diesel fuel (at least locally here in Michigan): $1.72 for diesel and $1.78 for fuel oil.

wvo

Well, I will be converting the 85 300D Turbo to wvo
very soon. Our diesel prices are now about .15 cents
higher than the cheapest gas.

gsxr

Do you have your car on wvo/svo...We will be coming
through your city in late April and was wondering if
you have access to any oil.

Would like to hear from any one that has access
to oil along I-70 from K.C. across Kansas/Colorado
to Green River, Utah and on highway 6 to I-15 North
to I-84. I-84 North/north-west to Portland, Oregon.

Have heard from Jerry, in Portland. Thanks in advance,
Bill DeWitt

P.S.
We are planning a trip to Ken Downing GTG at Yreka,
Ca. in April.

HI Bill,

No, sorry... I'm not yet running SVO/WVO in any of my cars and therefore don't have a local source. But with the recent price gouging, it's getting VERY tempting! Normally in this area I wouldn't attempt it more than 6 months of they year due to the temps, but this winter has been very weak... warmer than normal, only 3 inches snow all winter (normal is 22 inches). Diesel is nearing $2/gal here, if it gets near $3 then I probably will start experimenting on one car. D'oh...! :p

Same here Triffin, I'll bring mine by so our E300's can enjoy each other's company again :-)

In any case, filling up for 1.95/gallon is absurd. For the past few days I've been reading about running the OM606 hard to maintain good fuel economy and longevity and it's kinda hard to convert to this mental, specially since you've know gassers all you life. But anywho, with this past storm 2 days ago keepin the RPM's high and rompin' a little on my way to Foxwood's last night ,and my MPG had increased from last fill-up where I had weak mileage [all city].

Here is the current Excel sheet.... Do these numbers look similar to your calculations Triffin.

http://seekreality.net/michakaveli/benz/mpg.xls

BTW Triffin, I would definately recommend the Delvac 1 for your E. When wiping off my valve cover and oil cap a few days ago, looking into the engine the timing chain is briight silver, as if it were new. And the inside wall of the valve cover is actually gray again, not yellowish from running previous dino oils. I recognize its expensive but well worth it.

You think you got a hosing? I prepaid $500 for fuel oil at $.879 a gallon. Sounds like a good deal, right?

Dealer went out of business and I got nothing.

Attorney General after dealer now but who knows if I will get anything back. Supposedly there are 184 others in the same prediciment.
