Question electrical mystery 85 300SD

HELP, My 85 300 SD only has a power drain (20+ Amps) when you pull the key out of the ignition and the steering lock sets. Anyone know why? What to check? Replace ? If the key is left in there is no power draw. Thanks to all in advance

One thought, even though not armed until the car is locked is to disable the factory alarm system. Do do this, remove the carpeting in the passenger footwell and you'll see the plug underneath there. Try that and see if the draw stops.

Angry Tried that

I tried that as my first thing. One more detail what ever it is, is on fuse number 13. Thanks again

I would pull 1 fuse at a time and see if the draw quits. Un-hook the (-) battery cable and hook an amp guage between the negative battery post and the neg battery cable. Does your '85 have the vacuum assist pump in the trunk for the door locks? I have seen them stay on and draw the battery down.
Also, un hook the Alternator if you can't find the problem thru the fuses. A diode can be shot and cause the Alt to bleed power. Make sure you un hook all of the wires to the Alternator. Chris

What I've done

All of the above list in various post. It is on fuse 13 with radio, antitheft both disconnected, and only with key pulled out.

I'd pull the electrical part of the key switch out and take a look back there for loose connection, broken plastic pin separator, metal chip, etc.
