It's my understanding that every mercedes engine (at least the diesels) come with the block heater in the engine, all the dealer does is install the plug for whatever cost. So what you need is the plug which is most likely the same on every mercedes. I think... :/

On the TD look at the third core plug hole on the passenger side under the intake( freeze plug hole) and see if it has a screw in plug in it... if so... you may have gotten lucky.. see if the one out of the 240 will screw into that hole...If not you may can make a plug for that hole to allow it to screw in...
Some 240's did not come with the block heater standard ... think " cheap ".. LOL... ___________________________ 1980 240d |

My '78 300d did not have a heater (it was from california) but the '79 did (I got it in ohio - I don't know where it started out)

Oh really?
If all came with a block-heater then why did I have to install one on mine. It's not fair! I always get jipped!

I know for sure all 240 &300d do not come with element. I installed 1 today. The biggest obstacle is removing the 19mm allen head plug which must have been installed at 200+ ft. #. I cut a new $20 3/4 allen wrench to 6" straight, removed air breather assembly and by using a 3/4 socket, 16" breaker bar and a 3' cheater pipe it finally broke loose. Glad the rest of my d"s have the element.

pklarc,
Ever wonder when you're putting that much pressure on a block plug if you won't end up removing a 3-4" chunk of the block? It always makes me nervous when I have to use force like that. Says alot about how tough those old iron blocks are though.

IRG,
yeah, when it broke looseI wasn't sure what had popped- the socket ,plug, block or breaker bar. Tools were craftsman so no problem there. Easier starts in these Tennessee hills will make the effort worthwhile. |
