Hello Y'all,
I just came back from my independent MB mechanic with some new parts for the '82 240D. I bought a set of valve seals, a new cam cover gasket, and a new oil filler cap gasket. Now I am $31.14 more broke but eager to put the new parts in. I hope that the valve seals will slow some of the oil consumption the ole gal has been doing.
On the way home I put her on the interstate and let her eat up some asphalt. She held 70 mph like a champ with no noticeable smoke. I really have seen some improvement in her since I slipped her a drink of Seafoam in the crankcase and fuel tank. Maybe the valve seals will be a step in the right direction. Next on the list is a new timing chain, and 4 new injectors. I will let my MB mechanic tackle the chain and IP timing.
BTW, I have an extra 240D cylinder head (still on an engine with a thrown rod) and I am wanting to rebuild it ( the cylinder head, not the engine). Can any of you guys tell me, from your experience, how much I should be ready to pay to have this cylinder head rebuilt? I want to do a complete rebuild on it so shoot straight if you don't mind. Are there any shops that you guys recommend that I could possibly ship the cylinder head to?
Tomorrow I will be heading to Columbia, SC ( 2 hours-one way) to a minister's conference and I plan on driving the 240D. Wish me luck!
