How?

How do you wear out a 123 steering wheel like this? I have never seen anything like it..

I once had a 1953 Kaiser Manhattan which was owned by a jewelry store owner. His commute was from San Jose to the S.F. Peninsula. He bought the car new, and died about 1980. The white imitation ivory steering wheel was worn away on the top of the rim about the 11:00 position, right down to the metal.

My guess was, he drove with his wrist over the top of the wheel, and his watchband abraded the plastic until there was no more.

OTOH, my 300D has a soft spot in the exact same (11:00) place. Perhaps it's the effect of skin oils over long periods of time.

That's not too far from the truth-

I also worked with a guy who had a '75 Dodge Charger (sorta like a Cordoba without all the Corinthian Lather and the filigree crud on the dash). He left his dog in the car one day while he went into the store, and when he got back the dog had taken a couple of 3" chunks out of the dash cover where the speedo was.

I wonder what this person is smoking "AS YOU CAN SEE, THE EXTERIOR IS NICE...", the interior is awful looking. Then there is that issue of that large looking knife sitting in the center console, I wonder what that is all about...

Looks like someone with strong hands twisted a part out of it. There was a 1995 Dodge (Cummins) on ebay not too long ago with 1,000,000 miles on it that had a truly worn out steering wheel, all the way to the metal in several places.... after the first 200k I would guess he really had to hang on to it to keep it going straight.

Whoa..... that almost looks like blood stains on the passengers kick panel. Looks like he used that knife to cut a piece out on the passenger side pillar too. As you can tell I had to go back and look for the knife after reading all the responses.

The steering wheel on a Euro 240D parts car that I bought a few years ago looks like that. I wondered if maybe the owner was a lady and used some sort of hand lotion that caused this to happen over a period of time.

Have a great day,

The red and black wires are attached to a DMM.

That JVC CD-Player adds such a refreshing touch to that interior :-)

I feel so sorry for that car...

Was it just me, or does it look like the rear end's seriously sagging? With a wagon, that seems quite scary...

I think this is the first time I've seen a Benz with the wood trim actually damaged. I'll admit that I have a few pieces that aren't attached at the moment (I need to re-attach all the wood pieces to the backing), but that's just horrible.

I wonder if that missing spot in the steeringwheel could be the result of someone trying to hack their way through and being spooked...?

I'm amazed that the bid price is so high...I think I've seen better-looking cars go for cheaper...
