Help! Turbo losing bolts

Hi,

I have not been very successful with my oter turbo posts, but I noticed something today that bothered me greatly. I will attempt to explain it as well as possible:

-Loking at the turbo on a w123 car, from the passenger's side, you will see the u tube boing from the air cleaner, then the silver casing which holds the turbine. Going back from there, there is a narrow section and then another similar looking larger casing, which I assume holds the exhaust turbine. On the front side of this casing, there is some sort of a flange, which is held to the casing by six-sided bolts. The one in the most noticable position, directly on the passenger side is missing! I assume that there must be a bolt there, and mine has fallen out somehow, sometime.

Can somebody give me some information on this bolt, i.e what size I should use o replace it? I assume an SAE grade 8 bolt is required. Should i use threadlocker red? I could not tell (but I have never taken apart my turbo) if there should be a nut behind the bolt, or if it threads directly into the exhaust turbine casing.

I think maybe this is the caus eof the hissing noise that is coming from tha side of the car.

I hope that someone might be able to provide a bit of information regarding this bolt.

Thanks

JMH

Don't know

I don't know about the bolt but it shouldnot be an SAE, probably metric. When ever you find one and install it, red locktite definately!

point taken... I though the phrase 'SAE grade 8' had to do with the strength, and not the sizing of the bolt...

Now if someone has an idea of the bolt size, or how I could find it out, Id appreciate it...

The best bet may be to carefully take off one of the other bolts and match. Unless you do, or go to a dealer to order the exact replacement, you'll have no idea how long it should be. Of course a visit to the dealer is probably best, but a quick look at another bolt on the flange has a very high probability of telling you what you need to know. It sounds like you should be checking all of the other bolts anyway.
