Smokey OM603
My W124 seems to be producing a fair amount of brown smoke when I floor it to get on a highway ramp. It's been doing it for a while and I've never bothered with it since everything else, including power on acceleration, seems great. The smoke cloud is not blocks long but is quite a bit more than I get on my W123 and enough to darken the glare of headlights behind me. At all lower speeds the engine seems to run clean and idling, acceleration and general drivability are all excellent. I've done a Diesel Purge, use RedLine 85+ in every tank (about 2 ozs.) and all my vacuum lines seem to be in order. My guess is that the ALDA may be off a bit (slightly too rich) although there are no signs that it has ever been adjusted. I'm also unsure if the IP is spot on timing wise but I'm not sure if that would make a difference with smoke on hard acceleration. Any suggestions on how to address this or is this just typical on the OM603? Thanks.
