The guy probably upgraded the orginal steel wheels and hubcaps to the alloys (don't know why!).. the car probably did come with the steelies from the factory. Kinda funny how the center console has wood trim.. he might have upgraded that along with the shifter knob..

From what I see it has a clock instead of a tach, manual climate control, no wood near the climate control, euro headlight adjustment switch, manual cloth seats and no sunroof. I'm 99% sure it's a euro car.
EDIT: also euro bumpers.. the front has the cutout for a european license plate. |

Door lock buttons with no tee are a giveaway but I don't see any doorlocks.
Those 86-up headlights have to go. Are all 601s 2.2l? Was there a smaller version in Europe? Sixto |

Yup, it's a Euro, but I don't know how sure those miles would be

It is a euro (I have seen many of them, each with a different set of options). I will admit the cruise control and the automatic transmission are odd for euros.
The vehicle is a 2.0 liter. There are no 2.2's in europe. All of the 4 cylinder 190D's (82-93) were 2.0 liter engines. There were I believe two different 2.0 liter engines (i.e., an early one and a late one).

Yeah I knew about the 190D 2.0 and mine is a 2.2. The 2.2 was USA only, what is the story behind this?

I have heard two different explanations (and I cannot remember where I read either).
One is that due to US automobile regs, Benz enlarged the 2.0 to a 2.2 so that it would have the same performance as the european motor. The other is that they did not think that the 2.0 liter would be lively enough for US purchasers, but they had to offer a sub 2.0 liter model (1,997 l) due to the taxation structure in Europe.

I am making a point to stay away from Euro vehicles (at least if I'm gonna be driving it here in Michigan) My 500SEL is a Euro and the VIN number has always been a problem with both my insurance company and also the SOS. The 10th letter is a "1" and from what my insurance company said, it is supposed to be a letter and not an "I". I had to bring it to them once so they could check it themselves. About 6 months later they said they still had a problem with it and wanted me to bring it to them again. I told them to take a hike and if they wanted my business, THEY could come out to my house and verifiy the VIN. I made sure my wife took a digital pic of them verifiying it.
Even though this car was registered in Florida by 2 previous owners the SOS had to come out and verfiy the VIN. What a PITA.
