Castrol Syntec Blend Truck Oil, Any Good?

Yea another oil thread! I know you guys really love these. But there is little if no information or opinions out there on this oil. To be quite frank it is on sale at Meijers right now, last day, $12/6qts with a normal price of like $2.60ea. I have it in the 83 right now and noticed it does turn a little quicker, but being I haven't really ran this oil I don't really have an opinoin on it yet. It is CH-4 rated and claims to be well suited for gas and diesel motors, and as the name states it is a synthetic blend, also I have only found it in the 15w40 weight.

The only person I seen who has tried this in the past and posted about it was Steve019.

I have been running Castrol Syntec Blend 15w40 truck & 4x4 (2.50 per quart, wal-mart) formula for the last few changes. It carries a CH-4 rating and says it is rated for 4 stroke diesels. I noticed the engine spins easier. I did not go full synth because of cost. I keep an extra quart in the trunk and rarely have to add any between changes. I did notice my oil pressure guage is leaking a bit. Maybe co-incidence. I plan to keep using it and may extend my oil changes to 4k intervals.
Any opinions on this oil, or do you think I should just pay a little more and buy a better oil. For everyone's sake let's try to stay focused on this oil though.

Thanks,
Jeff M.

Jeff

Yep, pay a little more and use the best, Mobil 1 or Amsoil 15/50

Just my 2 cents

As long as its diesel rated, and it is, CH4, go ahead and use it. It will be fine. RT

It will work just fine for your older Diesels. Just don't fool yourself into thinking that you have the same protection as a $6 per quart full synthetic. If you need the easier low temp starting and this helps, then great. But don't get crazy and try running it for 10,000 miles or something. The mineral oil portion of the blend will break down at high temperatures and leave deposits in your engine, which a full synthetic would not do. So you can use it, but just follow your normal change routine.
