82 300TD Window Won't Go Up- at all...

Aloha to all.

I live in the wettest (most inches of rain/year) place
in America...and I deliver pizza part time for Domino's in my
300TD (running on pure filtered waste restaurant fry oil).

Everything is going smoothly with the car except that
the driver's window won't go up (it is stuck in the fully down
position, the rear drivers side window doesn't work either but
at least it is up!).

The regulator motor doesn't make any noise when I hit the button and I don't think that both motors would stop working
at the same time so this lead me to the switch. I tried switching
the wiring and using the passenger side switch to roll the window
up; to no avail. So I took the trim panel off the door and can't
find anything glaringly out of place and couldn't push or pry
the window into submission.

I am at a loss. It seems like a wiring issue but I haven't a clue
where to start looking for the problem (I checked the fuse too).

I have done a search for "window regulator" and looked around
the forum but nothing seems to address this issue.

Ck fuses first of all. Then ck at the window motor with a test light or volt meter if you have 12volt at the window motor with the switch depressed. The window regulator may be broken. If you need to get the window up to keep out the rain, pull the motor off of the regulator and you should be able to manually hoist the window closed. Then take a piece of 1"x2" wood cut to length and wedge the window to keep it closed. If the fuses are good you cad carefully take the switch apart and clean the contacts in the switch, Remove the switch and carefully release the rocker part of the switch by inserting a small screwdriver between the rocker and the switch housing. BE CAREFULL as there are small ball bearings at the bottom of the switch. Clean the contacts and re assemble the switch. Good luck.

Just had to replace the motor on my driver's door recently.

Like motorhead said, check the fuse before proceding.

Then,check the little terminal block (have to have the door panel off to see it) to see if there's any voltage getting to the motor.

If the voltage is there and doing what it's suppose to do when you press the up/down switch, then the motor is most likely bad.

If no voltage is present, then there's likely a wiring problem somewhere.

Bottom line....make sure the motor is even getting power first.

Unhappy Wiring problem

Wires are probably broken between the door and A-pillar. I've had to fix wiring on both doors of my 300SD. MB did things sort of backwards, putting seat switches in doors and window switches in the console.

I've had a similar problem today as well with my 81 300D. My driver's side rear window will not go down and, when I try it, it blows the fuse. The passenger side front window works fine, though (until I blow the fuse with the attempt to use the driver's side rear window - they are on the same fuse). I suspect I either have a bad motor or bad wiring on that driver side rear window. I'll try and figure out how to check that out tomorrow.

On the plus side, I took a 240 mile road trip with her today and she ran like a top!

I'm having a similar problem with my rear passenger side window. First, the switch in the door only operates down, not up. Second, the switch for that window in the center console does not work at all.

Addressing the first problem: I know there's power and the fuses are ok because the window goes down. I tested the rocker switch by changing the rocker switch with one from a working window, with no change in the results, so I know it's not the switch. I'm going to check to see that all the wires between the switch and the motor are connected tomorrow.

Addressing the second problem: I want to solve the first problem first!

Like Jim, I also have a positive side to this story: I fixed the vacuum locks on the front and rear passenger doors as well as a broken door pull on the rear passenger door!

I have same problem with drivers rear window on my 300D. Try holding switch in up direction and move door open and close. Wiring from inside pillar and into the door may be the culprit. Wiggle them around while pressing the switch. This may point you to where to make the repair.

Found the problem!

Thanks to all for sharing advice.

Just before I was going to purchase a new motor for the
window, I ran into my mechanic who did the following:

slammed the door three times while keeping his finger on
the up button for the window.

Solved.

Apparently the motor is very strong and can jam the window
stopper (keeps the window from going down too far) against
the window regulator (sometimes twisting or breaking the
regulator). By slamming the door it jarred the stopper enough.

He also recommended that I grease the stopper and regulator
with none other than Pam cooking spray. He swears by it
as a lubricant.

Look to the switch

I have just had the same problem and found that after all of the taking apart the door and such that the switch was the culprit. I took apart the switch and cleand the contacts put it back and presto. Just like new. I love this hardware.
