mproper Clutch adjustment or do I need bleeding? Sticking transmission on 83 240D

Do i have inproper Clutch adjustment or do I need bleeding? The Sticking transmission on my prize 83 240D is driving me crazy. I have
1. bleed the cluch several times
2. adjusted the shift linkages
3. Changed the engine mounts
but my tansmission still sticks and binds. Obviously the transmission may be dead or worn...

I am wondering if anyone knows of a Clutch Adjustment Procedure or Clutch Master Cylinder adjustment like the one in Haynes, whether they have tried doing it and whether ther is some other adjustment for this problem.

I have a MB manual on clutch and transmission. The clutch adjustment is very close to the Haynes manual - you turn the eccentric bold to get just a little slack. Meaning you depress the pedal about 1/8" before the rod in the master cylinder starts to move.

I don't understand what you mean by "sticking and binding," but this sounds more like a transmission or linkage problem than clutch. If you can push the clutch in, put the trans in gear and drive away smoothly, then the clutch is doing its job.

There are bushings in the linkage that wear out and can be replaced, according to the manual.

Hello Carrameow

I am not happy with my manual transmition too. I drive W124 230E. Please let us know how you were able to solve your problems. If anyone has a knowledge on this issue please help.

Here is what is wrong with my transmition:
1) when the car is cold it is hard(have to apply force) to shift to 1st and 2nd gear.
2) sometimes the car shakes crazy when starting from 1st gear.
3) I can depress the clutch pedal 1/4 way and start from stop. This is a problem because I have to release the pedal very slowly in order not to cause fast engagement.
4) new engine mounts did not solve any problems shown above.
