One wheel steered car in rustland
Here's a photo of the attachment point of the idler lever mount on my 92 300D. My wife drove the car in rush hour traffic on a twenty miles highway commute today with a one wheel steered car ! Someone somewhere deserves a thousand thanks.

Amazing, simply amazing. Good thing she was in rush hour traffic, which probably kept speeds way down, brings to mind the saying "don't drive faster than your guardian angel can fly". You (or least your wife) oughta buy a lottery ticket. Keep us posted on the repair.

On the road again !
Job done. Here's is a photo report.
Photo 1 : the car would go where you want'd it to go as long as it was forward. Driving it backward in my «outdoor garage» was not an easy task : it need'd an extra outside right wheel steerer !

Photo 4 : the replacement part that was ordered from the dealer and that has to be shipped from Germany. I was a little surprised : I didn't know I would received the complete tab mount.

Photo 5 : I tooked a couple of days to decide not to remove the actual tab mount. I was afraid of weakening the frame by removing it and be not able to weld the new mount as solidely as the old one. The new part was cut to fit on the remaining tab mount.

Photo 6 : the new and the old. The old idler lever mount was broken right under the strap retaining the heat shield. The muffler pipe was not hot enough to get rid of the water that was accumulating under the strap. For those living in the rust belt, check that tiny drain hole on the horizontal pipe section.

Photo 7 and 8 : new part (or what remained of it) in place. Alignment of the new part was fairly easy : a box would fit in the upper hole and a smaller botton hole would receive a screw. Rough measurements showed that the new idler lever mount was not more than 2 mm (less than 1/8 in) nearer the center of the car compared to the old one.

Photo 9 and 10 : I called a professional welder with a mobile welding unit. He did a very fine job and the new idler lever mount is not near to fall down.
