Radiator flush, etc?
 

Howdy friends,
I'm about to change the water pump one of these days, and while I"m down there, I'll be changing hoses, etc. Question: since I'll probably have the radiator off, is there some way to really flush it out good on my own? Maybe let it soak in some of that radiator flush or something?

I cant find a DIY off-car radiator flush system thread.

I'm thinking I'll let it set in some "orange Glow" or some citric cleaner like that while I do the rest of the work. then just backflush via the garden hose. I'm just wondering if anyone has rodded one out themselves.

If I wanted to spend that kind of money, I'd replace the car!

I dont know if its original or not. Either way, it works fine. I'm only considering doing something since I'll have it out anyway.

No reason to replace the radiator just because it's original, but working fine.

If you really want to flush the system, before you take apart anything, fill the system up and put in the Mercedes citrus flush in.. avaliable at the dealer. Run that thru, drain, replace your pump and refill with orange MB coolant and water.

Why are you replacing the hoses? I used to follow the standard advice that you should replace hoses every 4 years. Well, that was before I owned a Mercedes. My first Mercedes was a 1980 300SD that I bought in 2000. I noticed that to my amazement, it still had it's original hoses on. So, naturally I immediately bought replacements and changed them out. Well that was for nothing, because when the hoses dried out I looked inside and there wasn't a single thing wrong with them. No cracking, or weak spots, or dry rot. I now have a TD that is now 20 years old and it too has it's original hoses. Granted I check on them, but I don't have any plans to replace them unless it's needed. So, I regularly feel the hoses to check on their condition. It absolutely amazes people that the hoses are original.
