1980 300D questions...

Looked at one for sale by a fellow poster...noted it had the dash idle-control knob like a 240, and also had a 240 dash clock.

Are other '80 300D's similar? Also...is this a turbo?

Thanks for input

I don't think they made a turbo in 1980.
Mine is not a turbo. As to the layout on the dash I do not have a tach but have the big clock instead. I think this is common for the non-turbo models.

This model and year has the dreaded acc servo.
I do know of at least one guy though that did the conversion to the newer controls and he loves it.

Apparently did not take that much work. When his old servo died he bought a rebuilt control unit and then everything else from a wrecking yard. After cobbling together a couple of new heater tubes for the engine compartment it works great.

Here's a question...is it possible to put an idle-control knob on a car that didn't originally have it? I ask 'cause I saw a 300TD yesterday that, according to the rear badge, had a turbo, but had the control knob...and I was under the impression that only non-turbo 300D's had it (and maybe the 116 300SD's?)...

Do you a set of bolt holes?

Just above the thorttle linkage there would be two bolt holes in the valve cover that the bracket screws in to. If you have these then there should be no reason you couldn't fit one in there.

Heck, even if you don't you could probably pick up a valve cover at a wrecking yard for petty cheap.
