Fuel mileage- 1998-1999 E300DT???

What do most people get for city mileage??

25mpg seems low. Highway speeds 15 miles of 20 twice a day.

I have been getting 29 mpg. over a mix of high speed highway (80-85 mph) and city driving.

I second nflynn. 28 if drive with my lead foot. Could be as much as 30 or 31 if I act like a normal person. Air conditioner is always on.

samiam4 - where are you? Is it possible you're using winter blended fuel? That will reduce mileage. We don't worry about such things in Florida.

I usually get 31+. I have done three approx. 2500 mi trips in this car, though, and have had 34-36 mpg when cruising at very consistent speeds for long distances. I have been using Texaco 'Supreme' fuel and adding Power Service on about every 3d fillup.

It's not my car... but a friend's.

His dad was a heavy diesel mechanic and hence is fond of diesels. He was not aware of MB diesels past 1985, hence I enlightened him.
46,000 miles car for his wife. I'm assuming she's not a leadfoot. We're in Dallas Texas, so I wouldn't see bad fuel or ??winterization. I'll suggest trying a different brand(station).

I was thinking I could check IP timing with the electronic tool this weekend...

I have one of these cars and am located in the Dallas area as well. Most of my milage is suburban stop&go commuting, with some occasional highway use out to the airport or downtown. I generally see about 28MPG this time of year, perhaps 2MPG less during air conditioning season.

Trip length greatly affects the MPG returned by these cars. I know of one owner who was seeing about 16MPG average. Turns out there was nothing wrong with the car, he just had a really short commute.

Michael,

Interesting thread. I get about 30 mpg average, and a little more, maybe up to 32 mpg when I drive mostly highway miles. I recently had some rodent activity under the hood that left the fuel lines leaking. Once the injector overflow lines were replaced the scent of Diesel fuel was reduced significantly. However, the supply and return lines under the intake manifold were still leaking and my mileage stayed at about 25 mpg. I had these fixed and the result is I am back at the 30 mpg level. Good luck, Jim
