I am just about to replace these lines on my 1979 "617" but this looks strange to me. Is this how it should be?

Yep, that's pretty much the way it should look.

There should be a plug in that little stub on the last injector. Typically a little plastic plug - you want to save that and reuse it with the new section of hose you cut to place there.
