Is this a good deal
Since it now appears everyone in my family now likes my car (1985 300d) because of the big difference in price of fuel (60 cents Beacon 1.48 a gallon) I must try to find another one.Saw this a 1983 300 d with 210k miles needs a transmission for $500.00 or offer.Question, what and where for a good (cheap)transmission.Ive heard $1400. for a used installed and wondered if thats good. Also if anyone has a Becker cd player-I want it.I love my Becker but the cassette player is getting quite tiresome and especially when they do not make tapes anymore.Thank you

Becker does make a CD player but it is in the neighborhood of $600
We just put one in a 500SL for a customer. Very nice unit however. If this 300D you found that needs the tranny is in good shape otherwise, I would suggest you have the tranny in it rebuilt. There is a company in California called MZF (Formerly known as Peter Schmid Transmissions) and it is headed by Peter's top mechanic named Wolfgang. They are an authorized ZF rebuilder and do VERY good work. For my 450SEL 6.9 transmission they quoted me $1,500 to rebuild it versus $3,000 for an exchange from Mercedes-Benz. Their warranty is two years/unlimited mileage, which also betters MB's warranty. I'm sure they would rebuild your 300D's tranny for far less than $1,500 but that would be the top figure.
