603 Vacuum pump replacement
Whoopee, I have the vaccum pump with the flat front (without the screws on the cover). I guess I have the old version. How hard is it to replace the sucker? Any special tools involved? I consider myself to be somewhat mechanically competent

It's not hard to replace, if I remember correctly it took me about 2 hours going slowly. You'll need to take the belt off and loosen the radiator shroud. No special tools required. There are a couple of threads on the topic that can give you more detail. It's a good idea to replace it because if you have the original pump it's getting close to self destruction time and if that happens it usually takes the engine with it. On the 603s vacuum pump replacement is a preventative maintenance item, IMHO.
