Unidentified part on a 617 engine

Can someone please tell me what this is?

I am talking about the "sensor"? to the right of the oil dip stick and the left of the glow plug?

Thanks for looking.

It is a second temp sensor - don't know why you have two of them though. Either this was installed by mistake, or for test purposes? Who knows... very odd though...

The early serial glow plug engines had two, one for the glow plug system and one for the gauge. The parallel plugs like yours should only have one, the glow plug relay uses number one plug as its "sensor." Maybe this is an earlier engine or something.

Have a great day,
