Alda

I will be swapping the broken ALDA out for a working model from another engine. I understand that orientation of the ALDA to the IP is crucial. I will note the orientation of both and use those positions as guides for installation (first I will mimic position of the broken with the replacement). I am curious if there is any speacial mechanism connecting the ALDA to the IP. Any info. regarding this swap will be greatly appreciated.

Don't know about a 617, but on the 603, the ALDA rod just pushes down on a rod in the IP, the position isn't critical and the ALDA is simply held in place with a captive nut. Loosen nut, remove ALDA, put new on and, tighten nut. Line it up so the pressure line fits, there is no other connection I know of.

Thanks, Peter. I wish more of the details of these bits of work had directions like those. Short and sweet.

Each ALDA is set to its IP on the bench. The only way to match a new or used ALDA is on the bench. In the absence of such facilities, it doesn't matter how the ALDA is oriented on the IP since it's not a factor of adjustment. I guess I only repeated what Peter said.

The fun will come in tuning the new ALDA. Do youself a favor and remove the wax and shield from the adjustment nut before you install the replacement ALDA.

I'm looking forward to dismantling the broken unit in order to learn more about how it works. Thanks for the help. I'll report as soon as I get it done.

Dave/gsxr posted pictures of an ALDA he took apart. It's not at all a complicated device.

I wish companies like HKS would give up making $300 blow-off valves for AT Diesels and work on a programmable or easily adjustable ALDA. That might be worth $300.
