trans slip
my '78 300D was starting to slip as it shifted as well. It turned out to be a worn out bushing in the linkage. When that was replaced, the problem disappeared. Hope your 's is as easily remedied.

Provided that the external mechanicals are in order, like the shift linkage, you may want to try a product called Trans-X. Its available at Pep Boys, Autozone and other McParts places. Pour it in and run it for 300-500miles then change the fluid and filter. Its a fairly aggressive solvent product that also contains seal conditioners (swelling agents) to help clean the gunk and varnish out and helps the seals become soft and pliable again. Don't leave it in for too long as too much seal swelling and cleaning is not a good thing. Its one of the few "silver bullet" products that actually has merit. Don't overfill the transmission. Drain some oil if you must to add the Trans-X. RT

The car it topnotch as far as everything else. I will check the bushing. Try the transX and report the news. Another this is it only does it when its hot. It is also hard to get it to slip. Seems like it slips when your not trying to make it. Maybe what i am experiancing is flaring. But this is the first automatic I have owned some im not the in tune with how they should feel as far as drivin them go. In the short amount of time i have been driving i have always had manual transmissions. From what i have heard the mb trans is different then all others. Can anyone tell me if this is true. I need automatic trans knowledge. thanks Cooty

On the driver's side of the transmission, twoards the front of it, above the pan will be the modulator. Pop the little black cap off, and turn the key two full turns clockwise. This should firm up your transmission shifts. If all else fails, put a BB in the black vacuum line going to the transmission. Makes even the most worn out transmissions shift good (but hard).
Be careful about changing your tranny fluid if it is very dark or smells burnt.. at that stage your tranny could stop working if you change the fluid. |

Turbodiesel:
Your post says: "Be careful about changing your tranny fluid if it is very dark or smells burnt.. at that stage your tranny could stop working if you change the fluid." Can you be more specific about the above statment. What should I do if the fluid is dark and smells burnt? |

Modulator two full turns?
Mine tranny only took minor adjustments of two notches CW to firm it up. Are you sure you meant two "full" turns? That would be really agressive.
