I have a Bel Vector remote radar detector. I drive like a maniac but have not had a ticket in almost 4 years. I installed it myself and it is always on. It does go off several times a day in the city due to false readings but it has some settings to keep this from being too annoying. Recently I drove a two hundred mile stretch between Southern Idaho and Nevada at well over 100 mph and hit 150 to 160 on occasion. Of course this was early Sunday morning and there was zero traffic. BTW, if you know how to maintain it, I think the 90 to 96 Q45 is the best car value in the market bar none.

PNI

P NI beats the V1

I was looking for a V1 when I ran across this site
All brands have ups and downs but the PNI Traveler at around $200.00 or $125.00 on ebay works and works VERY well.
I got pulled over in St. Pete a few weeks ago with no warning of any kind in heavy rain. Cop said he clocked me with laser and I was doing 53 in a 35 zone. Well I know laser DOES NOT work through glass, and since it was raining I know this cop was not out of his car and his windows were up when I went past him. After seeing I hold a commercial class A (drive anything that moves) he came back and said to watch my speed and I will let it slide. No $h!t pal, I was doing the speed limit and you know you didn't clock me with squat.
On the other hand I got a ticket for 55 in a 35 last year while out testing my Father in laws 64 T-Bird. I was in heavy traffic and the cop had on the ticket he clocked me at 4566 feet with laser. Just short of a mile. Went to court and ticket was tossed after I questioned the officer how many times he could hit a 7 inch target with his service revolver at 4500 feet. This was after he said he used the headlights as his target

Q45, I remember when they came out, a friend at the dealership said pedestrians were getting bumped in the parking lot, as the cars were so quiet, no one heard them coming. I kinda like the body linde, having owned an early XJ6.

Rebootit, I'm with you on fighting tickets, I have let a few borderline/bogus ones slide, rather then fight, and deeply regreted it. The last one was a speeding ticket, were I was paced, well I was accelerating, and for a very short distance, I don't think the distance was nearly long enough to have paced my speed accurately. I decided to take the traffic school and it is costing me the same increase in insurance, as the ticket would have. So now I will fight them all, regardless. Texas insurance is high to begin with, I am told 25% of Texas residents are thought to have no insurance, bike insurance is higher as well, which I'm told is do to the longer riding season. A friend has had three tickets thrown out, once the officer didn't show, the 2nd, and 3rd time, the trial was moved back so many "dates", that he proclaimed his Texas right to a speedy trial had been violated, both were thrown out. He laughed at me when I said I would do driving school, when my insurance caught it 6 months later I was unable to laugh, but saw his point.

GSXR, I love the Duke and I am becoming very enamoured with KTM's in general. At present "I need to downsize the fleet," so the Duke (and the 190) are supposed to go, but so far I have taken no action to get rid of it. The quality of the kit, and the scarcity of the bikes adds to the experience, Brembo Gold brakes, Magura tapered bars, huge USD WP forks, WP piggyback shock, BBS wheels, etc. I love the looks as well, though you might not like the color, it's a damn close match to the 300D. Very strong motor for a thumper, more of a top end motor then thumpers are normally, 90mph + is easy to get to and to hold, (And I thought a thumper would slow me a bit) the bike just "wants" to get up and go. It needs a bit stiffer spring for my 210lbs, to get the rear sag right, though compared to Japanese OEM suspension, I should be flogged for any complaints about the WP stuff. It comes stock with a 160 rear, and I think a 150 would speed it up a bit, and better match the front. I am running M1 Sport-Tecs, and they work well, though it really needs HR tires, VR's are just too slow to warm up (Not that much of a problem in Texas though ), and the heavier carcass is unwarranted on a "fly weight" like the Duke. (The Euro guys all swear by the HR's that are readily available in Europe.) I am gravitating toward "Adventure riding", in that I picked up a KTM LC4 Adventure R, and I plan to ride it to Big Bend National Park, and Copper Canyon, Mexico. Planning, will see if I follow thru.

"Trusty old GSXR" It couldn't have been that old! I had a 1987 ex WERA, GSXR, with flat slides, headwork, cams, very scary now that I think about it, especially with my riding ability, or lack thereof! Guess my Guardian Angel was working overtime. Dainese wise, I picked up a nice custom Stitch, RIGHT before I got laid of in Seattle, not workable gear for Texas, but still very nice for touring.

I was bidding on a PNI Cordless Traveller, but forgot to watch it. It closed for $71, I should of watched it.... Supposed to be as good as the V1, but more false alarms.

the traveler has 4 city modes. One will allow it shut the X band off which is the source of most false alarms. K and Ka is being used more and more to open doors but you have to get pretty close in the parking lot to trigger that alarm. However I know that some smaller towns may still be using the old X band and know for sure that Cherokee NC police use it. It was the first time I had ever seen it being used in the last 15 years. This was just last year.
