won't start
Hi,
my 300 TDT was parked on a steep uphill and now suddenly won't start. I have fuel flow thru the prefilter and main filter when I crank the engine over. It is getting to the injection pump. I unhooked one of the injector lines (from pump to injector) and there was no fuel flow there. thoughts?? |

I don't know the year but if it has a hand primer try pumping it a hundred times or so before starting. Could be you have a leak in the fuel system that is lettin in air. Although you probably cranked it enough to get any air out...
No fuel out the line is a question there. if you have fuel to the pump then you will get fuel to at least some of the cylinders. try lossening the other lines and see what you get too. The other obvious thing is low compression and glow plugs that aren't working right. With either scenario you could have problems. With low enough compression glow plugs won't help either. Could also just be a low battery that is not cranking the motor as fast as it should or the starter is not up to snuff and not cranking fast enough to light her off. try charging the battery really well and see what happens, also check the glow plug resistance at the plug in the relay. should get .05 to .06 ohms there. Might have a couple of bad plugs. Good luck.

280GE,
Have you returned your car to level ground to try to start it? I think all the fuel drained back to the tank. You probably have a small air leak that allowed this to happen. If it always started easily before, its unlikely that the GP system or low compression is the problem. Remove the fuel line from the fuel filter to the IP and pump the hand fuel pump until fuel comes out. If you don't have a hand pump, crank engine with starter until fuel comes out freely. Then reconnect fuel line and try starting engine. If you have a manual transmission, you might tow it to a big hill and try a roll start. If that doesn't work, try to find the air leak. One way might to put it on a steep incline, nose down, and look for a fuel leak. P E H |
