Cigar Fuel Hose Not Available?
Maybe I'm just not good enough at this parts acquisition thing yet, but I can't find that fuel line return cigar hose anywhere...
I tried Fastlane, Trollhautten and Performance Products. Earlier this year, for my W123, I got the last one Performance Products had... I am about to purchase a W124 1991 300 D 2.5T and noticed that the cigar hose is cracking and starting to leak..... Help!

Shame on you PEH!
Surely you have a better solution than forking over those hard-earned $$$ at the stealership.

R Leo: I sent an email to Kent at Mercedes Source, but no reply yet.
FYI - It appears they went to a parts distribution system, or at least the same web front, similar to Fastlane and the Troll.

Napa has(Had?) a type of hose called "Multi-duty hose", it's a red colored hose with a 250 psi rating. Comes in 5/16", which will fit at this location. Good stuff and I don't think it will cost $9 a foot.

R Leo,
I don't like to buy parts atthe dealer either but if they aren't available anyplace, I will buy from dealer. Between a choice of no part or a high priced part, my choice is to be able to get the needed part even if its from the dealer. P E H |

My biggest problem was getting one of our dealers to sell me a part, or even talk to me.
I tried calling one of the MB dealers in Milwaukee and the parts dept wouldn't answer the phone. The receptionist was too busy to page anybody and just kept transferring me to Parts (5 times) and their email box was full at their Internet provider, so I guess they don't check their email much.... I called the other dealer in town and talked to someone right away. After explaining what I was looking for, they figured it out and ordered it right up. Guess which one I going to call next time???? Even though it takes less than half the time to get to the first one.....

MVK,
The "cigar" hose is the first part of the return line to the fuel tank. It is located aft of the spin on fuel filter and connects from the spin on filter to the metal fuel return line. Thru is passes air and fuel from the bleed hole in the spin on filter and the overflow fuel from the injectors and the injection pump. The cigar hose looks like a snake that ate a smaller snake: about 12 inches long and fatter in the middle than the ends where it is clamped onto the metal. It also looks like a hose under pressure and ready to burst. However, there is no pressure in it because it is an open return line to the fuel tank. The cigar hose is supposed to dampen some fuel pump noises but I don't know how you could hear them with the Diesel engine clattering away. If my cigar hose went bad, I would probably replace it with a piece of regular fuel line and save the $12 to $25 cost. P E H |
