240D for $100??

I stummbled on a ???? year manual 4 speed W123 240D at a local mechanic who said that the car was driven in by a customer. The mechanic diagnosed the "engine knock" as a bad engine and the customer left the car. When I started the car it sounded just like a diesel with a slight knock but I also noticed that the injector closest to the radiator had a leak. I read on posts here that injectors might cause a knock. I heard and drove Diesels with much worse knock than this one and they ran fine. The car is missing the grill and hubcaps, everything else is there and there is some minor rust. In case the engine does go bad could I swap the doors (same beige color as my 300TD) from a sedan to the wagon (300TD 1985)? I guess I just need some reasurance from you guys!!

Thanks, Igor.

For $100 you can't go too far wrong. The main problem I see is the title, can you get it? Otherwise it would just be a parts car, if I could find one with the manual climate controls for $100 I would grab it up just for the controls to put into my 300D. Even if it only ran for a month or two (assuming it has a title) you would have gotten the $100 back out of it. I say go for it.

What the heck are you waiting for? Quick man, before some other lucky SOB scores it! I'd probably separate a shoulder trying to get my wallet out fast enough..... RT

Thanks for the support guys, I figured that if I used the doors (still need to know whether they fit), instrument cluster and the windshield my investment would pay off. Now if the car ran and needed a new fuel injector that would make me very happy. In any case, I think I'll get the car and let you know what happens. If I decide to part it you guys will be the first to know.

Thanks, Igor.

If it's a 123 and has a palomino interior, I might be interested in some interior parts if you decide to part it out, depending on price...

And JUMP ON IT!!! I wish I could find a deal like that; Robin needs a car (and I think a 240D would suit her just fine )...
