Diesel in the paper!

On the 'Wheels' section front page was a big feature on diesels, focusing mostly on Mercedes, some on VW. It talked about how GM and ford screwed up the diesel car reputation for americans. It also talked about how 50-75% (yearly) of the sales for MB were diesels in the 80s. It gave some pictures of the new E320 CDi which will be here next year along with the diesel liberty. I might be able to scan it in for you guys, so you can see it.

This was in the Columbus Dispatch.

I scanned the actual article. I have to upload them on another server though, they are too big. I scanned them as 1.2 meg pictures, in 2 pieces. Then I sized them down to be about 600K a piece. I will be putting them on my server tonight.

Mercedes will launch its E320 CDI turbo-diesel midsize luxury car next spring. It will feature a 3.2-liter, straight-six, 24-valve, double-overhead cam engine producing 301 horsepower and 368 foot-pounds of torque.
WOW! I had no idea this beast would have over 300hp!

Wow again...

How did MB do it? This E320 has only a few more tenths of a liter than my 95 E300 and it gets over X2 the HP. Is it turbocharged perhaps? Mine is also an I6 DHOC with 24 valves but it is normally aspirated though. Fast enough for me.

Can't wait to see the pictures. Does anyone know if it looks the same as the current E-class?

Angry

tHEY DID IT WITH COMMON RAIL INDUCTION (cdi) WHICH RESULTS IN MUCH MORE PRECISE FUEL DELIVERY, WITH HIGHER PRESURE THAT IS MUCH BETTER CONTROLED. THIS DELIVERY SYSTEN WASTES LESS FUEL,WHICH RESULTS IN LESS ENGINE KNOCK AND EMPROVED MILAGE The sadest part is I can't HAVE ONE.

Having some trouble getting them on there. But will have them up tonight for sure. The engine is turbo, but the new injection system injects fuel at different points in the ignition. One of the articles in the images I scanned talks a bit on this. Sounds very cool! I really want one of these much more now knowing that their power is that high now with even better economy than us.
