300cd will not crank
i just converted my 300cd automatic with a manual engine, however it will not crank. i put the injectors from my automatic and put it into the manual engine. the only ting i had to unhook was the neutral safety switch. the only thing it will do is turn over. can anyone help, or let me know what i have over looked??? i have no clue what to do at this point? the engine i put in has been sitting for years, so i don't know if this could be the problem. please help any one?

Have you bled the air out of the injector lines ? Slightly loosen the inj. line nuts and crank until you get fuel at the injectors, if you havn't already confirmed fuel to this location.
You should also have already changed fuel filters and bled line/filters also. And, have you confirmed that the glow plugs are functioning ? Hope you find the problem and let us know what it is/was.

done that.
yes i have done the things you have said. the problem is when i try to crank the car, the strater and the glow plugs come on at the same time. and as the car is turning over, the glow plug go off. i made a jumper on the neutral safty switch at pin 1 and 3, could this be the problem? do you have a number? i could call you?

From what I have read, the glow plugs should go off once the starter engages so that is not your problem.
You need, fuel, air, compression at the right time over 100rpm's, at the right temperature(glow plugs) to operate. If it's not starting, it's one of those things. If you've confirmed fuel (black or grey smoke coming out of exhaust as you crank it over?) put your hand over the air intake to make sure it's sucking air, then move on to check the other items. Do the glow plugs feel warm after they have been on?

Tsmorrow,
You won't see black smoke from exhaust until the engine starts. But you should see white smoke, which is atomized Diesel fuel, if the engine is getting fuel from the injectors. Your explanation is confusing. First you said it wouldn't crank. Crank means the starter turns the engine. Then you said it would turn over. Turn over means to invert something, like turn over a pancake. So what I think you meant was that the started cranked the engine but the engine wouldn't fire. It that correct? Do you have a primer pump on your engine? If so pump it rapidly about 50 times. That should get any air out of the filters and injection pump. If the primer pump leaks when you are pumping it, you might need a new primer pump. It could be allowing air to get into the fuel system. P E H |
