Replacing self leveling pump 85300TD

Has anyone out there actually replaced a self leveling pump on a 300TDT? If so what am I in store for. I posted rencently that I had a problem, and it seems that the pump is leaking. All other suspect locations appear dry. I was thinking of trying to obtain one through a junk yard. Is there a rebuilding kit??:o

Is it the main seal around the shaft or possibly a fitting or hose near it ?
Have you been using the special fluid which MB calls for or generic hydraulic fluid .... or brake fluid ?

You mean have I used Yulee's GOLD!! I just paid $13.50 for a quart of that stuff from mercedes. I have used it in the past for $8 online. Talk about a ripoff. I guess it could be the seal. It's not pouring out. I cleaned the area well, and dove the entire day only to find it wet just below the pump. I put the quart in and the rear appears to be somewhat higher than before. I guess thats good?

Yes,,, and unfortunatly I think you should use the correct fluid.. you are correct that my question implied that the wrong fluid might have caused the seal to leak..... I also think it wrong they require the special fluid...
That sounds like a very small leak... but I would keep my eyes open for a good one at junk yard or on Ebay... at the very least it gives you one to send out for rebuilding... or to try replacing the seal yourself without disabling your ride....

I called MB and there is a seal between the pum and the block. Do you think its a difficult job? I think the pump may still be ok..

Are you still talking about replacing the main shaft seal ? Or something else ? When you talked to Mr. Benz,,, did he mention a part number on the seal you are referring to ?

I'm not sure. I asked parts of there was a gasket for the pump and he told me that there is one that also comes with 2 o rings. I did it over the phone so I didn't have a picture to look at.
