R12 is on sale at Advance/Discount Auto Parts

According to the store manager I just spoke with in St. Petersburg, FL, the email just came through today about the sale price of 18.88 per 12oz can. He said it was not just his store, but "all of them."

Funny side note - the parts counter guy didn't know what R12 was and had to ask the manager. They keep the stuff locked up in the manager's office.

I suspect you still must be "certified" to purchase it. Correct? I know that's a very easy process costing $15. but a pain none the less.

Yes, you still need the 609 certification. They asked to see my license and wrote the info down in a logbook. You can get it at IMACA for $15 with an online open book test. I had mine in under 30 minutes. When you pass the test they give you a temporary certificate that you can print and use right away. The real comes in the mail in a week or so.

Got "certified" today and went down to Advance/DAP store in Key West and sure enough I was able to walk away with a can of R12 for $24 including tax. A little more expensive than elsewhwere but then again I'm at the end of the road down here and everything cost more than on the "mainland". The AC in my Saab is happy again.
