Removing center consol on '84 W126 - need help!

I'm trying to get to the bulb(s) behind the center consol where the A/C controls sit. When attempting to remove the panel, I had a lot of resistance about midway up. I could free the bottom and start to pivot the panel out, but I don't think it was pivoting far enough away to pull it down (I think it's tucked in at the top?). I was afraid I was going to break the wood. Any tricks?

If someone can post a pic or two on how to do this correctly (remove the center wood panel) I would appreciate it! (or email me bodyart27@aol.com)

The stereo that is in there now has a removable face, so I'm able to get the wood to separate at the bottom. I'm hoping I don't have to remove the stereo to get to the bulbs.

AFAIK, you have to remove the stereo because it covers two screws holding down the ACC control panel.

Remove the ashtray, remove the two screws holding the ashtray frame, remove the ashtray frame, reach in and pull out the stereo (that's how I do it), remove the two scres holding the ACC control panel, remove the control panel.

Pause when you have the stereo out to see if you can get the bulb without pulling the ACC control panel. If you kinda know what's back there, I think it's possible.
