New Euro Diesels.......USA?

BMW 5 series has a diesel now.
So does the VW Phaeton (high end lux car).

How about MBZ/
I wonder if these will be available in USA?

Just about all European manufacturers offer Diesel variants of the cars we get here. At this point the US only sees VW TDIs. I understand an MB CDI is due later this year or next year.

BMW sold a 524td in the late 80s. I think it had a Volvo engine and I think Lincoln offered the same engine in one of its cars.

Sixto,

As far as I know the BMW Diesel was a BMG engine and Lincoln used it in a few of their cars.

THe Volve Diesel is a VW engine. A friend of mine has one. Funny engine, the IP is driven off rear of camshaft by a belt and camshaft is driven by a belt at front of engine.

The 524TD was only 84-85 and was a great running car. Performance was almost the same as the 528e and I got 33mpg at 75mph. The car handled great and had all of the feel of the 5 series BMW on the road. It is getting hard to find parts for the engines and they do not hold much value. I replaced it with my 300DT and I am very happy with the MB.

Thanks Joe, I recalled reading some about MBZ but I also wanted to report what I saw as 'news to me' on Deutsche Welle TV
about the great performing VW and the well rated BMW 5 diesel.
