Lost Brakes!!! Almost Rear-ended Someone!!!

Well, sorta...

I was driving along yesterday (in my customary slow/cruising style), and I was approaching a red light. I went to apply the brakes, and there was no pedal movement at all. They were frozen in the upright position! So I SLAM my foot down on the brake pedal, and it finally works and I come to a halt.

Next red light, I give myself plenty of room, and sure enough there's no brake pedal movement again. Again, I slam my foot down on the brake. But this time I hear a crunch as the pedal is traveling downward.

I looked down in the footwell, and there were large chunks of the firewall (interior) sound-deadening material scattered about. A big piece of this s had perfectly wedged itself between the brake pedal arm and the firewall, and then I guess shattered when I slammed on the brakes.

Just a heads-up to check for this loose material in the driver side footwell.
