Lost my lights and my clock

Hey Guys,
I recently was advised that the taillamp lights (the ones that burn when your headlights are on) were out. The brake lights, reverse lights, turn signals, and the license plate light all work fine. I've switched the bulbs from right to left and nothing happens. Will try to get two replacement bulbs and see if it works BUT, coincidence or not, at the same time I noticed my clock in the dashboard is no longer keeping time. Could these two things be related?? I mean everything on the car worked fine one day and BAM! both of these things stop working. Any guidance is appreciated as I'm not completely handy with these cars yet...but getting there.
