Bragging
This Morning, my wife's Caddy went down for fuel injection problems. Guess what started on the first turnover and got her 35 miles to work? You guessed it, our 76 300D. I think that thing is like a roach bug. After the nuclear holocaust it will be the only thing left running.

My wife's '95 Taurus died Wednesday. My 250,000 mile '82 240D got her to work...and to the new car dealer. The Taurus had been a good car, but with 130,000 miles everything was starting to bad together--tranny is shot, and the engine just quit--no computer codes.
I love my diesel--if it doesn't run, there is a problem with the fuel system; no emission systems to foul things up; no electronic controls. |

Gotta be weird thing stepping from gasoline engine into diesel, no doubt she was shocked by presence of actual engine sounds and characteristics.
OTOH, many cannot imagine going from diesel to gasoline car. First thing I'd ask myself going from diesel to gasoline..... "Where is the engine, and how do i know what its doing?" And a Cadillac too..... the last one I drove of them was vintage '60s Fleetwood of friend in college many years ago. The damned thing drove like gigantic sofa pillow on the road. Hated it. Yeah, I know what you mean about the sofa pillow. The one concession I had to make for her was to put a pillow in the driver's seat for her to sit on. I guess that also has to do with her height and the fact that I need to repad and re-upholster the seat. But she is getting into driving the diesel. She is now talking about selling the Caddy and buying a mid 80's 300D. She likes the idea of reliability, no electronics, no ignition system.

imagine this one...
10 below zero. And its been cold for days. 300SD battery disconected, out in the barn (about 500 feet away. No heat) One new volvo S70. One new Volvo that wouldn't start. Walk back to the barn, connect battery, start the boat, and drive to work. This was my buddys mother 4 years ago. Yeah, they'll survive nuclear war. I can see the roaches driving them now. |

As we moved from chicago to western michigan, we make frequent trips to the other side of the lake.
My wife is nervous her 96 taurus (70kmi) will have troubles on the way, so we never take it. Instead, we always take my 190 because we are confident that there will not be an issue (I drive it 80-100 miles a day at 80mph). Its also been to detroit (200mi) and central illinois (350 mi) in the last 4 weeks. All that and an average of 37.2 mpg over the last three tankfulls. How do you beat it????????

You gotta love it! God bless the Germans and their diesels.
By the way, my wife has started calling our 300D "Panzer" |

My sister's 1990 Acura Integra wouldn't start for some mysterious reason on a rainy day, gave her a ride to school in my 240D. Same Acura Had An overheating coil that killed the engine while driving, and wouldn't start again till it cooled down.
