How to get windows down to change out regulators?

Both of my front window motors have died. The pax a few months ago, now the driver's. Pulled the panels off the door and checked everything, and it is the motors. I ordered new parts. The manual says the window must be down to change them out, but mine are both in the up or almost up position. Aside from taking the motor off, cutting the stator out, inserting the stator back into the regulator, and manually turning it to get the window down, is there any easier way?
Thanks
Fred

I did this a couple years ago on my 300d and if I remember right, I just put a big piece of packing tape on the window surface and ran it up over the doorframe to hold it up. Then I had to take the motor loose off the regulator (?) or frame (?) before I could get the window loose off the frame, fold it down to the down position, and get it out of the car. The motor is held on with three bolts or nuts, they face the exterior of the car, so you will not be able to see them. YOu have to look at your replacement to figure out their approximate locations and then unscrew them by feel. I believe they came off with a 10mm wrench. It goes waaaayyy faster they second time. -Andy

Exactly right

I did it this past weekend.

Andy, you have a great memory, down to the 10 mm bolts that hold the motor on.

Thanks guys
Fairly easy job. Didn't even scratch my hands. But, alas, I bought the wrong ones, 8 tooth instead of 14 tooth. So I get to pratice again when the replacements come.

Puled the door apart, took the three outer nuts (10mm 3/8 drive socket) off holding the casting that holds the motors, the motor wires, then two bolts (10mm 1/4" drive shallow socket) holding the assy on, and wiggled it out.

One door, entire job, about 15 minutes on the second door.

Thanks
Fred
