petrol in diesel tank

Non-technical advice please

0,56litre of petrol was today accidently put into the fuel tank of my 2002 M270cdi.

The tank was then filled with 75 litres of diesel - and probably already contained 5-10 litres of diesel.

The quantity of petrol in the fuel mix is thus minute.

Question - is it necessary to drain the tank etc etc.

I've heard so much about the fine tolerances of the new diesel engines and would hate to do any damage to mine.

Advice would be appreciated.

Peterme,

For once Leather and I agree, its is no problem having that small amount of gasoline mixed with your Diesel fuel.

Many people use a much higher concentration of gasoline in cold weather.

I have always used the term Frugal...which is a good thing unless it means you replace tires one at a time as they are needed... rather than one axle at a time....

Thanks to all for your prompt responses.

Have since come across earlier correspondence on this site on the same topic - should have read it before wasting everyone's time!

The official Mercedes view concurred with your advice and so I have driven my car throughout today without any noticeable side effects.. yet.

Actually it sounds like a stodgy and too sweet dessert to me. Like one that seven year olds would love.

gas in diesel

A colleague with lots of experience with mb diesel just told me a shocker. He said he runs two gallons of high octane gasoline in his TD every 4 months or so. He said it is good for it. This guy has had great success with long-lived mb diesels so maybe he's right. Comments?

I found a '79 300D with 72K miles for $500. The dealer had FILLED the tank with 89 gas. A theif had broken in and damaged the power sunroof, so it is closed until its repaired.

He could not get it to run and he thought the injector lines needed to be bled. But, he said he got it runnung with some WD40 down the intake. I pumped the primer pump and gas came out.

Other than these it's in good shape.
Is this a good buy? Just drain and refill the tank with diesel.

$250 tops. Part it out or, if the body is good, stick a manual tranny in and go.

That's non-turbo engine and, even if it is a 300, with the automatic you'll still need a reservation from Expedia to get on the freeway.

I also found a '76 300D at a public auction. So-so engine, it smoked at idle and had a vacuum problem. The body and inside were very nice. No rust, good paint, seats were good. Sold for $200 to a 65 year old bald guy.

I don't have any problem getting my 300D non-turbo up to freeway speeds and the entrance ramp I use every day is an uphill grade.

It must be real different up there in the rain forest. Around here, if you don't go fast enough, the top edge of your trunk will be dented by the NAFTA 18-wheeler bumpers when they push you.
