water in rear floorpan of my 123 300TDT... help!!!
Did a search on this topic but still can't find the culprit. From what I've noticed, water comes from right under the driver seat from the plastic cover that holds the bundle of wires and vacuum hoses and runs into the rear floorpan. I've checked all drainages from the hinges to the underside battery area and they were clear (as it became a habit of clearing them out at least once a week). The windshield seal seems alright, sunroof drains are clear, no rust on either hinge or battery side. Since its a wagon, it can't be from the rear windshied seal, just the same, everything behind the rear seats are totally dry including both wheel well compartments (spare tire and tools). Can't be an A/C evap leak since it floods only when it rains.
Any suggestion as where to look for the leak source??? If it comes from the wiring and vacuum hoses under the driver seat, what are the possible entry points of water from the outside? Does the sunroof drains lead to it? Thanks in advace for the help. - Tippee |

I have the same problem, only on the passenger side. In my case, there's a hole in the firewall next to the battery that allows water to leak onto the floorpan. Is the driver's floorpan wet or is it just the rear?

leak finally solved
Removed the seats and under dash cover to trace the leak. Then simulated rainfall per panel with all other panels covered with plastic starting with the sunroof then windshield. I concentrated Found like 4 traces of water leaks from the inner firewall under the dash. Finally, I found the culprit. The leak started when I put the water hose directly on the wiper vents. At it seemed, the drain hose of the vents flow are attached to the engine firewall and weren't sealed and positioned well. The cause of the leak was when water drips thru the vents, the water directly falls on the rubber grommets that hold the vacuum hoses and speedometer cable, then it seeps thru the hole and inside the cabin area. It seeps under the flooring panel (the sound proofing panel) and goes to the rear floorpan. Basically, it passes thru the canal which holds the wires and vacuum hoses.
The solution was, re-position the drain hose of the wiper vents by turning it and make water avoid the rubber grommets. Just to make sure, I sealed all grommets in sight with silicone. Finally, no more leaks!!! - Tippee |
