81 240d what's this switch for?

While working under drivers dash yesterday, I was adjusting the floor mat around the throttle pedal and noticed for the first time a round black plastic switch looking gizmo. Sort of like the old high beam switchs cars used to have, two part black plastic body, I push down on the spring loaded top and hear a click noise. It's situated under throttle pedal where if you floor the pedal the top underside of pedal contacts the switch. It looks factory installed. A two pin connector comes out the top but theres nothing connected to it. What is this?

Full throttle kickdown for the tranny.

Thanks for the quick reply. I forgot to mention my car is a 4 speed stick. I guess the factory puts them on all bodies auto and stick.

I'm guessing that is what it is for. I thought about the manual tranny thing. They just may put them on all bodies. My 300SD has one and that is what it does.

I would be surprised if the switch is not wired to something. But, if it is not wired to something, you could put it in series with your a/c clutch. It might take a relay to reverse its open/close, but it would be great for interrupting the a/c when at WOT. This would help your passing power.

Good luck,

There's nothing connected to the switch that I can see. Just the two male prongs sticking out of the switch, and no loose unconnected cable hanging around that I can see.
I already series wired my aux.fan(temp sensor not working) to my unused rear dome light rocker switch so that's all the rigging I want to do for now. Thanks for the idea.
