Electric Fan

What is the fan infront of the condesor on the front of the radiator triggered by. I thought it might work when the A/C is on, but it turned it on and that didn't seem to do it. I am wondering where the sensor is that triggers the fan, because my 240 has been getting a little hotter than I like it to lately and I was thinking about either
A) Fixing whatever sensor it is hooked to
or
B) Hooking it to a switch

Any enlightenment would be appreciated

On my 240D there's a 212F temp switch mounted on the thermostat housing. That switch had gone gad. Once I replaced the switch the fan would come on when the A/C was on and the coolant had reached 212F at the switch. I believe there are other switches and relays involved that other will chime in on but that is my experience.

I just wired a switch/relay combo and mounted it in my center console. I just turn it on when I run the AC or if the engine gets too warm.

on my 84 300d the fan is hooked up to the ac dryier. IF you disconnect them from the temp sensor on the dryier the fan will go on. I have connected them on mine and allow the fan to run when ever the car is on. It has helped keep it cool and improved the function of the ac.

PS come september I will reconnect the sensor
