just bought a 116 300SD and have questions (of course).......

I just bought a '79 300SD and had a couple questions.

1: What is the lever on the side of the front seats? It pulls up. The lever on the front is for sliding it forward/back.

2. What is the knob that is just to the left of the steering column? It is black and can be turned two different ways. It is maybe an inch and a half diameter? I have rturned it and nothing happened.

Thanks
David

From my 123 240D.

#1 Moves the seat up and down, but in a diagonal plane. So it moves back and forth as well. Mine needed some lubrication for it to work. Once I got it where I needed it I haven't needed tp adjust it again (2+ years)

#2 Fast Idle adjustment. Since yours doesn't make a difference in idle speed it's probably broken. Happens over time and usually hastened by turning the knob to the fast idle position without having the accelerator depressed.

A little more on the seat adjustment, because it is not obvious. Pull the lever up hard. Then slide the seat foreward to make it higher or rearward to make it lower.

Uhm yeah, sorry about that. It actually took a second person to pull the lever as I sat in the seat to move it back and forth.

Yeah, that's why so many of them have broken handles. ************** sells a replacement handle for that. The dealer part is the whole lever so you have to take the track apart to install it.

Is the fastlane part the whole assembly or just the plastic? On the driver's side the plastic is broken. The passenger side is
in-tact and when I got home I asked my dad and he showed me. It did take some elbow grease. How do I fix the idle adjustment?
Thanks
David

**************.com is the only place I have seen the plastic handle by itself.

Now, back to the idle adjustment. I have no experience with a W116 or an OM617, but I can contribute this from a 1980 240D. This is what the idle adjustment knob looks like.

The knob is connected to a cable which is in turn connected to the stop lever. It is the cable on the right in this picture. The one on the left is for the cruise control. (Sorry about the focus.) The idle adjustment cable should be adjusted so that there is just a little bit of slack in it when the engine is off. You should be able to reach in and turn the knob while watching the stop lever to see what it does.
