2.5 Turbo condenser swap

Hey,

I've got a 92 300D 2.5 turbo and have been told my AC doesn't work because I need a new condenser. They quoted my $850 to change the consenser and fill up the system. I was hoping to possibly change the condenser myself and just have them fill the system back up.

Is this a DIYer type job? I've changed my alternator before, so am somewhat used to the front engine area. Not sure about high pressures or other problems that might exist, though...

Thanks for any advice on the subject!

Would not be a hard job but you need to know why you need a new one. Does it leak? If so then you need to replace the R/dryer for sure and should do it anyway when replacing major componets in the A/C system. The entire system will need to be flushed and new oil and freon put back in after install. This is also a DIY job if you can read. You can rent the pump and buy the freon and oil for around $100.00 total. (cost for R-12 in Florida is $18.90/can) and you need a little less than 3 cans.
