how much air is too much air? 617

during the recent work on fuel lines including a relocation of a prefilter I've discovered I have a good bit of air prior to the main fuel filter. I can see it in this prefilter.

I never owned this vehicle prior to their not being this much air being sucked in so I have no clue if the performance is off beat or not. Nothing to campare against either since it is custom. (Dieselized Unimog), Yes I burped the nut atop the fuel filter.

Any suggestions on how to test this further?

There is a clear line that Ive been told to watch before that is now solid black rubber line cause the clear one cracked while I was on the road. Thus, I cant watch that; though I can swap it out back to clear.

What is the path of fuel in this line.... I assume it is the feed of fuel from filter to IP? Sorry it's been awhile since I looked at it.

Where and what size clear line do I get to replace this rubber line?

It is normal to see a bubble in the prefilter. No worries. As long as it starts and runs okay, you have nothing to worry about.

Good luck,

Good luck,
ok thanks

is their a different looking bubble that I should watch out for that indicates something is amiss? Obviously I dont want moving bubbles to travel from the inport to the out port.... anything else?

PS. this is a non stock large prefilter I'm using if that matters

No, once the entire system is bled and running, you won't have to worry about anything unless you have a leak somewhere.

Good luck,

Good luck,
Well, "Do I have a leak somewhere" is what I'm trying to decipher. What buble characteristics might I see to help me decide if I have a leak somewhere.

Coachgeo.

Best way to find a leak is to put a small amount a pressure in the fuel tank and inspect the fuel lines for leaking fuel.

Any air getting into the secondary filter will be bled out the bleedhole in the top of the filter and the air will rerturn to the fuel tank.
