Question Question about rear subframe bushing kit

On my 1983 Mercedes 300D, I want to replace the rear subframe bushings. It doesn't appear from the picture that #41, the stop rubber, is included in the kit. I also don't see it in the online catalog. Is this part called by a different name? Is this something I'd have to get from the dealer?

That is a generic subframe mount picture. The 123 body of your year as well as mine does not include the upper mount bushing.
as long as you get the large unit, that is all you need except for some slide lube, or silicon spray. Here is my link on the 82 wagon rebuild.

So there is nothing there between the big bushing and the body? Hmmm. Is the picture in the manual of removing the big bushing with a 2 arm puller at least correct? Or is this going to be an air hammer job? The last job I did was the driveshaft rebuild. Things went according to the manual until it was time to remove the centering sleeve from the front driveshaft. They showed 2 prybars levering it out; RIGHT!! It took an incredible amount of force plus heat to take it out. Then, the sleeves were different from front shaft to back so I had to take it to a machine shop to have them cut it to the right length. Big PITA.

There is a cup on the top. Check on the Ritter Easly site there is instructions on how to do it with an allthread rod and hyd. jack.

A cup? Is the cup replaceable, made out of rubber, would the old one still be there after 20 years

i did this a few months ago on my 84 300D. for decent DIY instructions check http://hsb.baylor.edu/html/easley/autofaqs/sframe.htm
(i think i got that right) it's for a 126 body, but it's the same animal.

my car does have the small bushings attached to the floorboard
you refer to, but they were not included with the new bushings from fastlane. they're dried out and spongey at this point. i proceeded anyway, and i trust the main benefit is from the big bushings anyhow.

when applying pressure with the jack, it may not pop out immediately. be sure to give it room 'cause she may go hard and fast and you could have an unpleasant surprise.

when installing the bushings, if they don't go in easily, try to get
them seated at least and then load them with a bottle jack on
the bolt and let the car's weight force it in. this may take a while. hopefully yours won't be so stubborn. it's not that big of
a job, but patience is a virtue (sometimes).

between that and the bilsteins, the ride changed dramatically.

good luck.

At the top where the rubber cup goes, there is a piece like a pipe that holds the threads for the long bolt that holds the bushing. That "pipe" has to fit down into the bushing a little and can be tricky to get just right. The bolt is long enough to thread in without the "pipe" being set in but the bushing will not be right.
You can pull the trailing arm down a long ways to get plenty of clearance. I would get all the parts and also the sway bar links and do it all at once, you might check out the diff. mount also.

ditto on the diff mount since you have to drop it anyway.
