Hi all,

i need to replace the rear glass in my 83 300SD. I got a used rear glass from a 86 420SEL from a junkyard, but I am not sure if it is the right size. I tried ordering a new seal for the glass, but the part number for the 300SD and 420 SEL are different. i did notice that the aluminum trim for the 420SEL is a bit smaller than on the 300SD. So my question is: does anyone know if the window size on the 83 300SD and 86 420SEL are the same? maybe the seal is just different for the trim?
any help will be appreciated.

I looked up the numbers for your car and a 420SEL they are definitely different, both the seal and the glass. At first I thought it might be the long body that was the difference. I then looked up a 300SE (short body) and it has the same window and seal as the 420.

I presume this means the differences are in the moulding and possibly the rear window defogger element. The body hole should be the same I am guessing.

i'll return the glass back to the junkyard and hopefully they'll take it back.

i took the glass back to the junkyard and at first they didn't want to take it back because "our computer says its the right one". I finally got them to call the dealer and they confirmed that the glass from a 86 420SEL was not right for a 83 300SD. Apparently there were some changes made to the 126 body in 86; therefore not all parts from 81-91 126 bodys are interchangable. anyway, just thought i post this so other people might get some good info.
