clunking at right front
Well a week or so after taking ownership of a 1979 300SD I have some more problems. When driving, there is a continuous clunking after either taking a left turn normally or j;ust going down the road. It sounds kind of like the tire is loose and flopping around? If you could imagine a noise like that, that is what it sounds like. The noise normally doesn't last more than 15 seconds or so. Could the right tie rod be worn and there is now play in it? Any insight is appreciated.
Thanks David P.S. It is the w116 chassis.

My TD had a loud clunk from the passenger front wheel area. I looked around and found the bolt holding the shock absorber had fallen out. I replaced it with a new bolt and it hasn't happened since.

Check your lug nuts for tightness.
