W210 E300TD Air Mass Meter
Any clues as to what the symptoms are of a failing air mass meter on a W210 E300TD? Mines done 86k now and whilst I can't put my finger on any specific problem, I have heard that the air mass meter is prone to early failure.

MAF Sensors
Hi,
I just replaced mine on 1998 E300 at 150K. There were no symptoms other than the OBD II test results. The interesting thing though, is that I happened last summer and I had a difficult time getting one from a source other than a dealer. Apparently, they tend to fail when the weather warms in the spring/summer. At the time last year there was a run on MAS and I got the last one in the warehouse systems. Others had to wait for restock (3 weeks). |

Dave,
When mine went out, the dreaded I just lost another 200 dollars "Check Engine Light" came on. What followed was a loss of power. Cell phone to girlfriend: please look up Mercedes shop in Conroe, Texas. Computer showed code for MAF sensor. Drove for a few days after reset and happened again. Didn't know it was possible to work on it myself...thought about trying to drill out the screws before letting the tech replace. As a result of this Forum, heck, Sears sells the tools needed to remove the screws, buy the sensor from Phil, have computer reset at AutoZone, and save lotsa money.
